If you don't know who Alen Doyle is, I hope you know who Great Big Sea is.
If not, I suggest you google it and then come back.
Got it?
Good
Alen Doyle came to Peterborough for a free concert as part of the city's free summer concert series.
When I was growing up the very first concert I got to go to was Great Big Sea. I was very young when this happened and I didn't quite understand the name. I through it was "Great Big C".
The band broke up a few years ago and Alen has been doing his own thing after that.
He has been playing with a band called The Beautiful Gypsies.
He has his own music and he played about one of his, and then one of GBS's.
Taking pictures was hard as I was over a hundred feet away and it started getting dark around the time the show started.
Most of the photos were taken at f6.3 with the lowest shutter speed I could get away with at 400mm focal length.
They ended up around 1/100 to 1/160 with ISO 3000 to 5000.
I am pretty happy with how it came out even if I had to de-noise and lost some detail in the process.
. One of the band members was an amazing violin player, and while I can't capture her sound with a camera, but I did try to capture her energy.
One of the songs was "Shine On" and its about mental illness and helping out your friends.
The way they did it, was Alen came out by himself and started. Two members came out and joined him and sang together, before the rest returned.
It was one of the best nights of the summer.
