The RCAF also brought a CF-18 to do a demo flight.
For those who care the CF-18 is rather similar to its cousin the F-18 of Merica fame, but with some bits for landing on carriers that are good for landing on arctic run ways.
This thing was fast, i mean mind bendingly fast.
Also maneuverable, to make turns no mortal plane could survive.
The white cloud coming off the leading edges of the plane is the air separating instead of flowing along the wing. Normally this would cause most planes to start to fall, but though some black magic (aerodynamics) fighter planes are designed for this.
As for speeds, they did a fast pass around Mach 0.9 where you watch it flight low toward you without making a sound. You crane your neck around as it passes, and then the sound hits you from behind.
One of the maneuvers preformed was the “square loop” they came in low. At t he left side of the airfield pulled a hard turn up, flew straight up, then upside down straight back right, then straight down, and finally flatting out.
The corners were tight enough making the path followed basically square.
